So what am I thinking you ask? Well I think it will be something that she appreciates. She has been training for about a year and a half and her belts are just pilled up in her closet next to her shoes. She is very passionate about her training and I thought this would be a good way for her to display her belts.

The karate belt display that I am considering is this one: http://www.karatebeltholders.com/displays/belt-displays/.

She trains in Kyukoshin Karate and is a very good tournament competitor. She has taken 2nd place in a regional tournament.

A great picture that looks like two karate kids in love.
I feel I have been getting better but wanted to help move everything along.

I am also considering buying some equipment to help with it too. One of then pieces I am ordering is the leg stretching machine: http://www.bestlegstretchers.com/shop-gear/pro-swift-stretcher/

They also have a video that shows other stretching equipment they carry but I think the pro stretcher is what I want. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFSSeYvVwqc
They seem pretty cool and comfortable (according to my friend Lisa). But what I am unsure about is the split toe. I am not sure if having my big toe separate from my other toes will feel comfortable.

Here is where I am considering buying my ninja tabi shoes http://www.realninjagear.com/ninja-equipment/ninja-tabi/. They are not that expensive. But I still do not want to waste my money.

A closer look at them here in video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUkd5m49h-g
And this year will be no different. I have started a new workout routine. I am jogging 3 miles in the mountains and adding some different types of weight training to regimen.

In addition I am trying out some new sparring gear: http://www.taekwondosupplies.org/category/tkd-foam-sparring-gear/ It seems pretty good and easy to clean so I am happy about that. Everyone knows how hard it can be to keep your gear from getting stinky.

Also I have some new training partners who are versatile in TKD who are training at a new school here in California. (If you are unsure how to choose a TKD school go here: http://www.wikihow.com/Choose-a-Taekwondo-School.)

My new partners have been training for over 7 years so their experience in tournaments will help me with my sparring.
Are the Japanese and Chinese martial arts related?

Seeing how the two nations are close geographiocally I would say yes they are related. Of course each country has its own unique way of doing the techniques based on its ancestors and culture.

The one thing I do find interesting is that Japanese Karate and Chinese Kung Fu both wear peasant uniforms to workout in. The Chinese wear a kung fu uniform (see it here at www.classickungfuuniforms.com) and the Japanese wear a karate gi (see a video of it here at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRHwJcInqck). I find that very interesting.

It seems that both cultures wore what was on hand. And that was the common clothing of the day.
To see more of the more elaborate clothing worn by these ancient Asian cultures check out this video I found:
Ninjitsu! Back in the 80's this was a very popular martial art. It was popularized by the first American Ninja: Stephen K Hayes.

He wrote all kinds of books about this art. There are many arts within ninjistu. Tai-jitsu is the unarmed style of the art. He is an interesting man and you can learn more about him here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_K._Hayes . He started training way back in 1975 in Japan and then came back to the US and started teaching. However he only taught a few students. It was not until recently that he started teaching the public.

So where can you get the clothing that they wear? It looks pretty cool. Go to http://www.authenticninjaclothing.com/more-ninja/ninja-clothes/ and see the different kinds available.
In Japan, you're either students or teacher, and thus have either a white or black belt. Teachers felt a need to exhibit development, particularly amongst kiddies, and therefore the kyu were born, when karate found the UNITED STATES. He's offered a Gi, the white karate uniform, whenever a student begins their karate training. She or he is given a belt, whilst the student advances, understanding skills and patience. There's a typical development in shade, from yellow to black. Although the indicator of ability, their order, and shades vary from style to style, the devices are usually given in the next order: Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Brown, Black. It typically takes at least 24 months for students to move from white belt to black. For every belt there's a test, often an efficiency of kata, actually indicating type, which is really a number of stances, striking and kicking methods.

Katas can be carried out independently or in pairs. These rank tests are often done on a single class day put aside for the performance. The ratings for black belts in most Japanese Fighting styles are called Dans. In Japanese, dan can be used to mean stage or level, in this instance meaning degree. As this history is older, the guidelines for getting dans are better. At the very least 3 3rd dans should be present, to rise towards the level of black belt. You may become a certified instructor, though having your belt by no means makes you a specialist once you've your black belt. You're always studying in karate. You will find 10 examples of black belt. The initial 5 dans could be acquired through opposition, assessment, and performance of katas. Dans 6-10 can just only be performed through larger contribution to the martial-arts world and years of skilled training. These higher dans could be granted only by even higher ranked representatives of the main [often regional] school or by steering committee.
